Q + A

How do I get around In Paris

Use the public transport Paris has an extensive transport system comprising buses, tramways, metro, and the RER train network. To get around the city easily, get a Navigo Découverte Travel Card. It costs 5 euros ($5.50) and can be purchased from the ticket office of any metro or RER station. Once you have this card, you can load a Navigo daily or weekly pass on it for unlimited travel. Alternatively, buy a single ticket as and when you need it. These are called Ticket t+. They are valid for two hours and they cost 1.90 euros each or 16.90 euros for a pack of 10. Download the Bonjour RATP app Navigate Paris like a pro by downloading the city’s official transport app, Bonjour RATP. This app will show you maps of the transport network and schedules in real time. You can even top up your Navigo pass with it.

Preparations before arriving

Bring an outlet adapter, exchange USD for Euros ahead of time, and have at least one phone with access to data.

Do I need cash for Paris

Make sure you keep euros on you. Not everyone will accept credit cards. If you want to stop for a quick coffee or croissant, you will need small change. Check-in with your bank and notify them before leaving.

How do I stay connected

Free WIFI is powerful and plentiful in France. Most (if not all) hotels, restaurants, museums and even some parks will have WIFI. Even the street the Champs-Elysées has a free WIFI network! The Wi-Fi SSID is called “_Champs-Elysees_freewifi” and delivers 30-120 Mbps to up to 35,000 concurrent users. Sometimes in cafes/brasseries the WIFI code will be on the menu but if it’s not, just ask the waiter or waitress. By only using WIFI you can surf the web, upload pictures and videos, and make telephone or video calls using FaceTime, Skype or WhatsApp.
